Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Table

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a diverse cast of characters, and a thrilling plot including celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces growing in power within the urban setting.

Note: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure are included.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The third episode concluded with a huge suspense moment and introduced the initial group of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to embark on their own adventure, apart from the other two tables.

This warrior group features the determined fighter (portrayed by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

Given an extensive roster, it was evident from the beginning that maintaining everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

Hence, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before dividing into three smaller tables: Warriors, Strategists, and Seekers.

What Defines the Combat Party

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who are drawn to a typically action-packed battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are rare.

At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the events of the latest installment show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

First, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a intense opening clash with the enemy group.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose passing initiated the story’s plot—manipulated the foes for his personal gain, breaking into the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.

The antagonist then paid off his debts and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, above the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each adventurer has a personal reason to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and trusted friend, seeks vengeance.
  • The adventurer has experience in the region and warns that it is a hostile location.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having defied his relatives’ demands to eliminate the fighter and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their position as important members in the influential clan could help the party access places they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character pledged a life debt to The savior for his deliverance and will now accompany him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are wanted by the authorities that govern the city for a multiple motives, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • Thimble and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This results in them no alternative but to head to Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

According to episode three’s Cooldown, we discover that the Soldiers table will be absent next week, leaving the rest of the participants to form the Seekers and Strategists parties.

Audiences can expect learning which characters will be in which group in the season’s concluding setup installment, released on next week.
